Hermogenes Ilagan was born in the Philippines on April 19, 1873, and was a well-known theater actor, dramatist, and director. One of the things that distinguished Ilagan was that he was a descendant of Francisco Baltazar. Hermogenes Ilagan became renowned as the Tagalog Zarzuela’s father. Among his major works are Ang Buhay nga naman, ang buwan ng Oktubre, Dahil kay Ina, and Wagas na Pag-ibig.
